Technology has led to the ability for every individual to maintain completely secure communication lines. As the anti-war movement builds, each of us need to be diligent in our use of encryption to counteract attempts by our government to use its newly acquired privacy invasion rights (i.e. the USA-PATRIOT Act). This guide will take you through the entire process of using “Pretty Good Privacy,” or PGP, an unbreakable encryption code. Because there are numerous guides about using PGP available on the Internet, this guide is going to be short and to the point. Below you will find a link to the correct PGP version for your computer. Download and install that file then read our quick introduction to using the program. If you would like to send Why War? an encrypted e-mail, our PGP key is below as well.

PGP is free for non-commercial use. You'll find links to the correct download location for any operating system at the PGP download page.
Quick Introduction to PGP
The way PGP works is that each person has two different keys: a public key and a private key. When, for example, Bob wants to email Alice he needs her public key which is then used to encrypt the message. In order for Alice to unencrypt the message she needs her private key along with the password which corresponds with that private key. This may not make sense immediately, but it's actually very simple and fortunately the later PGP versions are very easy to use.
To help you get started we'll run through a simple example of how to send an encrypted email to Why War? using PGP 8.0.2 on WindowsXP. The first thing you'll need is our public key which is located below. The easiest way to do this is copy and paste the key into a text file. Then open PGPkeys, in WindowsXP you'll need to right click on the PGP taskbar icon that looks like a padlock, and select Keys->Import.
After you've imported our public key, write your message in your email client. Then select your message and copy it into the clipboard. Right click on the PGP taskbar icon again and select Clipboard->Encrypt&Sign. Drag Why War from the top pane to the recipients pane and click OK. The encrypted message is now in your clipboard, simply paste it into your email (deleting the unencrypted message) and you're all set. Only Why War will ever be able to read what you wrote.
