Nobel Peace Prize
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Nobel Peace Prize (pronounced with the stress on the second syllable of Nobel) is one of bequested by the industrialist and inventor . Four of the five prizes are awarded in each year, but Nobel had stipulated in his will that the Peace Prize could not be awarded in Sweden. Instead the capital of was chosen as the award site and the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which members are chosen by the , is appointed to select the laureate for the Peace Prize.
According to the will of Alfred Nobel the prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".
Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, the Nobel Peace Prize may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving an issue, rather than upon the resolution of the issue. In this way, the Nobel Peace Prize differs from all the other Nobel prizes.
