Transcript: Saddam's July 8th Speech

Saddam Hussein | World News Connection | July 8, 2003

"I address you brothers from inside proud Iraq to say: Your main task now -- as Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmen; Shiites and Sunnis; Muslims and Christians; and under all titles and of all religions and denominations -- is to expel the invaders from our country."

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate.

We will, without a doubt, help our apostles and those who believe, both in this world's life and on the Day when the witnesses will stand forth, the Day when no profit will it be to wrong-doers to present their excuses, but they will only have the Curse and the Home of Misery.

[Koranic verse]

Great people; stalwart men and glorious women; valiant men of pledges and promises in our Armed Forces; all those who have chivalry and who are determined to come back to their senses to win God's favor and sublime honor: God's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.

I do not want to give a detailed speech about the aggression, invasion, and occupation and how and why [they happened], but I want to focus more on how to confront the invasion to expel it from our country.

Earlier, I addressed to you... [coughs]. Earlier, I addressed to you several appeals, some of which were recorded on audio-tapes that we tried to send to some of the media agencies. But you know that the quantity and the kind of what can be published or what is banned in international media is decided by Zionism, its tools, and its influence in the US black

house. This also happens under other names and titles worldwide. Therefore, we have sent several letters to the Iraqis in some governorates and districts as alternatives to audio messages through external media agencies. This was done in the hope that the Iraqi people would have already received part of them or would receive them later on.

At any rate, returning to the methods of underground action we had started at the very beginning is the appropriate method for Iraqis to

adopt. Based on this and through these methods I address you brothers from inside proud Iraq to say: Your main task now -- as Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmen; Shiites and Sunnis; Muslims and Christians; and under all titles and of all religions and denominations -- is to expel the invaders from our country. Therefore, he who advocates divisions rather than unity, and who works to disperse ranks rather than to close and unite them, is not only a servant of the foreign occupation, but an enemy of God and the people as well. O Iraqi brothers, reject any trace or cause of divisions and discrimination among your ranks and close your ranks. Let your banner be one; namely, Iraq's flag and banner of Allahu Akbar [God is greater]. The Iraqis are brothers because they are one people in one homeland. They have progressed and reached their civilization through history by virtue of their unity.

The aggressor occupiers and invaders have come with frustrated [word indistinct] that the Iraqi people would receive them as conquerors and liberators. Despite the state of carelessness that had hit some people, May God forgive them -- which distanced them from good initiatives and

deeds that please God, history, the soul, and [word indistinct] -- the people of great Iraq did not receive, and will not receive, the armies of the invaders in the way that their frustrated souls had hoped.

However, those who had been hit by this state of carelessness have started to change and see, once they are guided, an honorable role for themselves and their family before God, the people, and history. This will only happen when this person takes on the honor of an honorable

cause.

You see how the Iraqis, despite what happened to them, marked 28 April 2003 and held a celebration of challenge on a large scale in Iraq.

This was an expression and a reminder to oneself that celebrating this day was basically decided by the Iraqis a long time ago. Thus, they marked it. This was not decided by Saddam Husayn, the authority, or the government. Out of their determination and their free will, and a

confirmed return to an action that is [word indistinct] event and the eye. This stand expresses a clear announcement of the genuine adherence to the occasions they had loved. This is a stand of loyalty and amity toward their brother, son, and leader Saddam Husayn. The Iraqis should defy the occupation and the invaders and tell them and tell mankind after them that if the occupiers and invaders have managed to be on their land and in their homeland for some time, they will never be able to change what is inside the hearts of the people in terms of stands of faith, patriotism, amity, and zeal.

The Western news media, which some sides used to describe as free and about which some Western politicians used to brag, failed to refer to our people's genuine stands and love for their leadership, and their rejection of the invaders. This is because the Western media care less

about the people's genuine and real stands. The Western media only care for the stands of Zionism and the two Zionized US and British administrations. [words indistinct]

O Iraqis, you have exposed the United States and its evil allies morally and stripped them off of all meanings of honor and principles this time on the level of history and the world because of what the United States and its allies have done in your country in terms of destruction, killing, and looting. Even the ancient Iraqi antiquities were not spared this. You have exposed the United States and its allies morally, just as your heroic Palestinian brothers did against Zionism for what it did against Palestine and its people while confronting their valiant steadfastness and generous sacrifices.

O Iraqis, men and glorious women, strengthen your resolve and make up your mind by showing effective positions against the invasion so that

even the blind can see them [positions]. Show your opposition to the occupation, each according to his ability and method, such as through

graffiti and having the masses surround and obstruct the work of the forces of invasion and occupation. [You should also] boycott them by

not selling or buying from them and carry out peaceful demonstrations and civil disobedience in addition to opening fire on the occupation forces

with the rifles, artillery, and [rocket] launchers of the faithful youth.

What is important, brothers, is that every Iraqi--man or woman, young boy or young girl, child or old man--should have a daily duty. Every one of them should have a daily duty to carry out.

If a day goes by without this Iraqi doing anything, he should make up for that day later, and if a week passes by without this Iraqi doing anything, he should make up for it the following week. Do this so as not to give the occupation forces the chance to settle on your land without sustaining losses in terms of reputation, standing, and blood. Yes, you--Iraqi men and women--should have a position every day and under every title, occasion, subject, and issue that reflects your genuineness and jihad in rejecting the invasion and occupation.

God is with you. God is with the genuine mujahidin who stick to their positions, which please God, increase the self-esteem of the

faithful, and win God's reward and love and honor for those whom He tested and who passed the test. God will determine which person has

purified himself [words indistinct] and its effect and impact on him through despair and powerlessness [words indistinct] faith and high

meanings.

O Iraqis, work for victory, for it is coming, God willing. Before working for victory, do what pleases God by fulfilling promises and

pledges through affection for God and working for His sake so that He will love you, make your life easier, and grant you victory over the

infidels. There can be no victory except for those whom God grants victory once God is pleased with their action. Work through this to win

Paradise [word indistinct] God is pleased with so that victory will be visible, clear, firm, final, and with the presence of witnesses. Work

for this, O stalwart Iraqis and glorious women. We will work with you, God willing. Victory is coming, God willing.

Their intention is to extinguish God's Light (by blowing) with their mouths: But God will complete (the revelation of) His Light, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it). [Koranic verse]

God is great, God is great, and let the Zionist criminals and the US Administration and their followers be defeated and cursed by God till the Day of Judgment.
