The final number of the lists of candidates from the political parties and entities and coalitions has been announced. These candidates will compete in the elections of the (Iraqi) National Assembly, the Kurdistan National Assembly, and the councils of governorates. The elections will be held on 30 January 2005.
Dr Farid Ayar, official spokesman of the Higher Electoral Commission, said that 73 political entities, (including organizations, political movements, groupings, parties and societies), have presented the lists of their candidates for the National Assembly. Meanwhile, 25 political entities (individuals) have submitted their candidacies for the National Assembly. Four political entities (individuals) have announced the final withdrawal of their candidacies for different reasons. Three individual entities have changed their status, since they have withdrawn as individual candidates and joined existing coalitions.
The official spokesman noted that the number of entities that will compete in the elections total 98 political entities. On coalitions, Dr Ayar said that they numbered nine coalitions, with a total number of 49 political entities.
The official spokesman pointed out that the number of lists of candidates for the Kurdistan National Assembly have totaled 14 lists for political entities and only one coalition. On the other hand, no individual entity has presented its candidacy for the said election (of the Kurdistan National Assembly).
