We appreciate your interest in helping Why War? build a vocal, global peace movement. We are always seeking intelligent, dedicated, and self-motivated individuals who are interested in becoming an active member in one of America’s most unique student-run peace organizations.

If your strength is in writing opinion, commentary, reviews or creating artistic work for the anti-war movement, we encourage you to check out our submissions page!

Currently we are seeking individuals to fill the current volunteer positions:

Title: Assistant Content Editor

Job Description: Why War? currently archives over 3,000 news articles and dozens of hand-picked primary source documents. As Assistant Content Editor, you will help us in ensuring that our content is fresh and up to date.

Qualifications: Must have a detailed knowledge of current events and the ability to identify what articles are worth saving — we prefer quality over quantity. Individuals who regularly read non-US news sources are preferred. There are no special technical skills required for this position; all content on the website is handled by a graphic interface.

Applying: Compile a list of five articles that you would include in our database if you were an editor. Include an URL and one paragraph from each article that you consider to be the most effective excerpt. Double points given for important articles from an anti-war perspective more than two weeks old and which are not in our database. Send the list to information at why-war dot com.

Title: Assistant Web Designer

Job Description: As Assistant Web Designer you will help design the next version of our website. We try to significantly redesign and improve our website at least once per year.

Qualifications: The more knowledge of cascading stylesheets and W3C standards the better. Experience with either graphics design or layout (print newspapers or magazines, for example) is also a plus. Examples of previous work may be from existing websites, previous projects and/or non-Internet design.

Applying: Contact our web team, website at why-war dot com with a sample of your work.

Title: Assistant Web Programmer

Job Description: As Assistant Web Programmer you will assist us in programming the back-end of this website and developing new anti-war projects suited to the Internet.

Qualifications: Knowledge of mySQL and web-database software, PHP, and basic CGI experience. Some experience with HTML programming needed, experience with cascading stylesheets or dynamic HTML a plus.

Applying: Contact our web team, website at why-war dot com with a résumé.

Title: Graphics Designer

Job Description: As Graphics Designer you will work closely with the web team developing images and graphics for the website. You may also be involved in graphic publicity not specific to the Internet, such as pamphlets, brochures, stickers and buttons.

Qualifications: Experience with graphics illustration and design. Knowledge of color and resolution standards — and how to optimize them — for both web and print. Artistic and creative. Innovative approach to both photo-realistic images and purely graphical images (a logo, for example). Specific program knowledge not necessary, as long as designs can be output into TIFF and JPEG or PNG formats.

Applying: Contact our web team, website at why-war dot com with a sample of your work.
